Wythenshawe Community Church is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. This Assemblies of God church has previously been known as the Philadelphia Tabernacle, 'The Tab' and Crossacres Pentecostal Church.
Over the last seven decades the church, on Crossacres Road has made a really positive impact on thousands of people in the local community.
It has served as a spiritual home and great source of help and encouragement through its numerous activities including youth clubs, Sunday school, free Christmas day meals for people on their own, creative arts clubs, sports activities, seniors afternoon tea, toddler groups and a community cafe, as well as hosting sessions for Slimming world, Active Lifestyle fitness classes, Shana Keeler’s School of Dance, Social Services training and as a venue for a child-minders support group to meet. It’s a truly international church with members currently from 28 countries!
Pastor Mike O’Connor led the church for 21 years, vastly increasing the congregation and updating the building so that it is a modern facility for the local community to enjoy, he has recently handed over to Pastor Rasol Manouchehri who says:
“God has done amazing things over the years. We are grateful for this wonderful legacy in the community, and we’re excited for the future."
To celebrate the church's 70th anniversary there will be a special event on Saturday the 21st of September from 2 til 5pm where there will be a presentation followed by afternoon tea.
